Andrew McDonald is Head of Government Services (GSD), Public Record Office, UK and Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford. GSD has responsibility for the Office's appraisal and access policies and for its electronic records programmes. There are two principal projects within the latter: the EROS project to address the management of electronic records from office systems in government departments and the CRDA project to establish an archive for structured datasets. The latter function is to be outsourced. In the course of his fellowship at Nuffield, he is examining appraisal policy with a view to producing a new policy for the PRO to tackle appraisal in both an electronic and conventional environment.
