Objectives
The International Cultural Heritage Informatics
Meeting (ichim) is, traditionally, the best international forum
in which to examine the relationships between Technology and Cultural
Heritage. ichim01 had the theme Cultural
Heritage and Technologies in the Third Millennium, emphasizing the interplay between innovative technologies and their application
in the cultural sphere. This intersection was examined in tutorials,
keynotes, panels,
papers, posters,
and demonstrations that explored the
evolution of Cultural Heritage Institutions. Papers and
presentations addressed technical, cultural, social, organizational, and
economic issues in three tracks: Technology, Society / Impact and
Design / Systems.
ichim has been held every two
years since 1991, alternately in North America and Europe. ichim97
was held in Paris (at Le Louvre museum), and ichim99
was in Washington D.C. ichim01 was held at
the Politecnico di Milano, Milano, Italy. Specialists, from museums,
cultural organizations, universities, research institutes, technology
companies and organizations met and shared their experiences. Blending different areas of expertise
and approaches is the trademark of ichim.
