María del Pilar Herrero worked ten years at the National Museum, participating in different projects such as: the organization of the technical area, being in charge of the exhibit designing department for six years; technical assistance to the Dirección General de Museos of the Ministry of Culture in the organization of the first regional museums that were opened; elaboration of a diagnostic of the situation of the National Museum in 1982, and participation in 1984, in the first National Diagnostic of Museums of Costa Rica, organized by the Ministry of Culture /PNUD/UNESCO.

In 1995 for the thesis required to obtain the Licenciature in Anthropology she worked in the II National Diagnostic of Museums. It was recommended to be published and was done by the Ministry of Culture in April, 1997.

Since 1996, she has been developing and coordinating the Latin American Web of Museums and Parks of the Latin American Institute of Museums (ILAM).
