Wendy Siuyi Wong is an assistant professor of design at the Department of Design, York University, Toronto, Canada. Wong's research focuses on establishing Chinese graphic design history and studies as a part of world design knowledge, and theorizing cross-cultural hybridization frameworks of design studies and visual communication. She has presented her research works in the United States, China, Australia, and Turkey, and has published papers in the Journal of Design History, Design Issues, Mass Communication and Society, and Journal of Popular Culture. She is the author of books on the visual culture of Hong Kong, including advertising images and comics. Her most recent book, Hong Kong Comics: A History of Manhua (2002), published by Princeton Architectural Press, received reviews and coverage in major design magazines. Wong is the fellowship recipient of Asian Cultural Council, an affiliate of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, which enabled her to be a visiting scholar at Harvard University during the academic year 1999-2000. She is the 2000 Lubalin Curatorial Fellow at the Cooper Union School of Art where she completed a proposed research project and an exhibition entitled "Chinese Graphic Design: towards the International Sphere" in fall 2001. She has been teaching both traditional creative print and digital interactive graphic media full-time in design and communication schools in Hong Kong and the United States since 1997.
