Michael McAllister
Michael initially received a technical education graduating with honors from Drexel University in Philadelphia with a BS in Physics in 1978. In his subsequent career he held various engineering jobs developing new products for various manufacturers including toys, skylights, and quality control equipment. In 1987 he began working with Knoll International where he helped developed many furniture lines working with designers such as Emelio Ambasz, Gwathemy Seigel, Paulo Rizzotto, Raul deArmas, Stephen Peart, Emanuela Frattini Magnusson, Charles Rozier, Mike McCoy and Dale Fahnstrom. In 2000 Michael began graduate studies in Industrial Design at the University of the Arts in Phildelphia. During these studies he was awarded ID Magazine Design Distinction Award, 2002, and subsequently received a 1st prize from the International Design Resource Consortium in the Japanese competition, Design with Memory. This work and his thesis work both involved investigations of design processes to express an aesthetic of imperfection in mass produced goods. His subsequent work has primarily explored ways to maintain natural, human and erratic processes in an increasingly technological, precise and digital world.
Michael will present a close up look at Dialog Table - Session I. |
