Demonstration: Demonstrations - Session 2

In December 2004, the Atlanta History Center launched a brand new Web site. This long-term investment was deemed necessary to keep up with the growing status and reputation of the Atlanta History Center. In building the Web site, the History Center had several initiatives in mind.

First, we needed to update the look and feel of the Web site to demonstrate a consistent brand for the History Center. Our new e-marketing initiative spans from the Web site and has a consistent look and feel that mirrors the History Center Web site, returning us to the purpose of creating a consistent look and feel for the History Center's online presence.

Second, we were looking towards moving forward with a successful, and easy to navigate, online e-commerce solution, which is still currently under construction. We wanted to offer our patrons the opportunity to purchase admission tickets, specially ticketed programs as well as shop our Museum Shop online.

Third, we wanted to create a unique opportunity for visitors to tailor their visit to the History Center's Museum, historic houses and gardens which resulted in the creation of an online opportunity to build a custom itinerary. All programs and exhibitions are created with the ability to be included on an individual's custom itinerary based on their interests, age group and length of visit.

And finally, it was important for us to have an easy content management solution. Previous to the new Web site, there was only one on-site staff member who could update the Web site. Our current Web site was created by several staff members, all of whom are still active in keeping their portions of the Web site updated. This content management solution also included the ability to have an online image depot which allows us to organize the numerous images from our Kenan Research Center, which also serves the public for their historic photograph needs.
