Deborah Howes is the Museum Educator in charge of Educational Media at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she oversees the publication of educational materials in print, electronic and video formats. Over the past 17 years she has regularly presented sessions at a variety of conferences about museums, education and technology. She has been a board member of the American Association of Museums Committee on Media and Technology for five years and chaired that Committee's Muse awards in 2001 and 2002. The topic of usability is of particular interest to Deborah as she was a museum educator and evaluator at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1987 through 1991, and has chaired a session on museum Web site usability at the American Association of Museums conference in 2002. Her Master of Art thesis for the University of Chicago centered on evaluation strategies that help art museums learn from their visitors.
