Ian FranklinProfessor of Transfusion Medicine, Department of Medicine Ian Franklin is the Professor of Transfusion Medicine in the University of Glasgow, and the National Medical and Scientific Director of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service. He is also Honorary Consultant to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, which keeps my hand in at clinical medicine. He has have been a consultant haematologist since 1982, and worked in Leeds, London, Birmingham and Glasgow since qualifying in Medicine from the University of Leeds in 1974. Franklin has been the author or co-author of numerous publications on bone marrow transplantation, chronic myeloid leukaemia, multiple myeloma and other haematology topics. At present, he is an elected member of the committee of the British Society for Haematology and the Council of the Royal College of Pathologists, where he chairs the Transfusion Medicine sub-committee.
