Taloyoak Archaeology and Oral History Project

We wish to demonstrate a recently developed website based on an archaeology and oral history project we did in collaboration with the community of Taloyoak.

In the summer of 2004 Inuit Heritage Trust helped facilitate this project that brought the community together with an archaeologist and oral historian to explore possible connections between elders stories and stories presented by the science of archaeology. In the process students were trained in archaeological survey methods and interviewing/transcribing and translating techniques. We then applied for funding from Canadian Heritage (Gateway Fund) to create the site to share the information with a wider audience.

The website (www.taloyoaknunavut.ca) is an interactive multi-media site designed to compliment the curriculum for Nunavut and other classrooms across Canada.
