Power to the Pod People: Design Your Own Podcast (FULL)

What is a podcast? How can I create my own? These are just a few of the questions floating around the museum field today. This hands-on pre-conference workshop, Power to the Pod People: Design Your Own Podcast is presented by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's lean, yet fierce Interactive Educational Technologies (IET) team. SFMOMA's IET team has extensive experience in producing multi-media for the Web and kiosks, and is currently co-producing a monthly "museumcast" in collaboration with Antenna Audio, Inc. IET brings experience in video and audio editing, content development, html and Flash programming, Web authoring and publishing, and now, podcasting.
The half-day workshop will encompass all aspects of the podcasting process: scripting, digital recording, downloading audio, audio editing, publishing, and loading onto the iPod (or other MP3 player) via iTunes. The workshop will begin with an overview of the technology required to produce a podcast, and will include handouts explaining RSS feeds, content aggregators, digital audio formatting, and "how to" guides.
Participants are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and make their own podcast featuring an object in their own museum collection. Museum participants should come prepared with a short audio script (2 minutes or less) and if possible, their own laptops and MP3 players. Course instructors will walk them through the podcasting process from beginning to end, and with any luck, Power to the Pod People will do just that: give people the power to design and implement their own dynamic and engaging podcasts.
Participants who can are urged to bring their Mac laptops so that a variety of hands-on activities can be conducted; instructors will be in touch to recommend free tools to download prior to the workshop
