Amy Schriefer manages Smithsonian Global Sound (www.smithsonianglobalsound.org), a digital download project from the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. Smithsonian Global Sound works with archives of traditional music around the world to preserve, digitize, and catalogue recordings to upload to their site where they sell for 99 cents each. Royalites go to the archives, artists, and communities involved, supporting their continued artistic efforts. Schriefer has been with the project since the Web site launched in February 2005. She coordinates educational features, helps recruit new archives, and manages daily operations. Before Smithsonian Global Sound she worked in marketing at Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. She has an M.A. in Women's Studies and a graduate degree in Public Health from George Washington University.
