Lorna Abungu holds a degree in Archaeology/Museology from the University of the State of New York, with post-graduate training in archaeological conservation and photography at the Institute of Archaeology in London. She joined the National Museums of Kenya (NMK) in 1989 as a coastal archaeologist, and in later years diversified her work and became involved with various public programmes at the NMK, including web and multimedia project development. Since 2000, she is the Executive Director of AFRICOM, the International Council of African Museums, whose headquarters is in Nairobi, Kenya. AFRICOM is an international NGO that serves as the network body of museums and heritage professionals on the African continent.
