Jon Pratty writes regularly about museums, culture, art and the web, and is a visiting lecturer on the new Digital History MA course at the Department of Museum Studies, University of Leicester. He's a consultant in digital publishing; and is currently working on a PhD proposal which explores practical and pragmatic approaches to weaving new connections within the world wide web. Until August 2008 Jon was Head of Content at Culture24, publishers of Britain's National Virtual Museum, the 24 Hour Museum (24HM). Jon has a degree in Fine Art and has worked in the museum and gallery sector since 1984. In the ‘90's Jon retrained as a journalist and wrote tech and web news for the Daily Telegraph and features about technology, the net and culture for the Sunday Times, amongst many other publications. Jon joined 24HM in January 2001, and was responsible for creative and editorial direction of the site. This included building a national student writer network and in 2003 devising, with SSL Ltd, the UK's first dedicated museum and gallery RSS news feed service. Jon is a committee member of the Museums Computer Group and organises, with Ross Parry and Mike Ellis, the UK Museums on the Web conference. He was a core member of the Semantic Web Think Tank, continues to be Secretary of the Jodi Mattes Trust (the Trust run the Jodi Awards for accessible museum websites) and served on the working group for Museums and Galleries Month from 2001. Jon was a Best of the Web judge in 2007, and served on the MW 2008 program committee.
