Experience Music Project

Monica Hare and Melissa Taylor, Experience Music Project, USA

Demonstrations
Saturday, April 25, 1998
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Scheduled to open in Seattle in 1999, Experience Music ProjectTM will combine the interpretive aspects of a traditional museum, the educational role of a school, the state-of-the art research facilities of a specialized library, and the audience-drawing qualities of live performances and popular attractions. It will provide visitors with multiple opportunities for learning and discovery. Through exhibits and educational programs, Experience Music Project will encourage visitors to listen, learn, participate in making music, and experience the power and joy of music in all its forms. Experience Music Project will be an experiential place that provides opportunities for visitors to discover their own creative potential, rather than displaying static exhibits as most traditional museums do.

Experience Music Project embodies the idea of all people, regardless of age, background or interests, coming together for learning and community. Music is a common ground because of its power to cross cultures, languages and other boundaries. Experience Music Project is still developing, both in terms of its ideas and its physical form. Plans are currently under way for a vast array of exhibits and public programs that will be part of this mission.

Experience Music Project, a privately funded 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, explores the creativity and innovation expressed through American popular music and culture, with an emphasis on Northwest musicians and rock 'n' roll. To this end, Experience Music Project will educate and inspire people, encouraging personal growth, awareness and creativity, and it will offer a spectrum of program activities to serve audiences of different generations, interests and backgrounds. Experience Music Project is committed to an open and broad presentation of ideas that promote critical thinking.
