School and Museum on the Net

Norbert Kanter, Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland

Subsidiary Session: Museum Applications: Student Involvement
Thursday, April 23, 1998
11:00 am - 12:30 pm

The Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle has been selected by the federal "Schulen ans Netz" initiative and Apple Computer Germany to realise a unique new media project together with a local highschool. For the first time in Germany new methods of learning and teaching will lead to multimedia content production and publishing on the net. On the occasion of the Exhibition "Arktis - Antarktis", groups of pupils, teachers and museums educators will cooperate simultaneously in a special media room, the "polar lab", within the exhibition and in the school via ISDN and video conferencing. The usage of the exhibition libary, the objects in the exhibition, the research tools on the internet and the user group at the school in combination shall lead to new experiences in teaching and learning in museum and gallery exhibitions. The results will be presented on the internet server of the Kunsthalle and will be accessible to everybody.
