Concept and design of a gallery site - website of the German Art and Exhibition Hall - www.kah-bonn.de

Norbert Kanter, Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Germany

Demonstrations
Saturday, April 25, 1998
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

This demonstration will illustrate how to become an awarded web site with only big letters on Your homepage? It will show how we combined corporate design and artwork with exhibition content and the needs of the internet to create a unique, simple, interesting and beautiful site. In 1990 Neville Brody designed a unique font for the corporate design of the print products and the visitor guiding system of the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle. In 1996 this font became the design basis of this website where also Brody's floorplans were included. At the 4th of July '96 (launch of the website) only 20 pages were accessible - this developed fast to now about 1000 pages, nearly 2000 images and numerous video and audio files.

The demonstration will be about the design principles, the use of different exhibition content for a website, about various media "translating" a gallery installation into the language of the web (shockwave, realaudio, realvideo) and about maintaining a "large" gallery site - and maybe some statistics.
