Martin Freeth
After graduating from the Film and Television department of the Royal
College of Art, Martin Freeth became a film editor. In 1971, he joined
the Science and Features Department of the BBC (British Broadcasting
Corporation), and he produced and directed twenty Horizon (Nova) programmes
(including drama documentaries) together with editions of Antenna, The
Burke Special and Tomorrow's World. He was the executive producer of
Science Specials such as Einstein's Universe and of series such as The
Mind Machine and The Trouble with Medicine. He has produced several
international co-productions with WNET, WGBH, ABC Australia, TV Espanola
and others and won many awards.
Two years ago, he produced the interactive discussion series about
science, The Exploratory and since then developed new media projects
for BBC Network Television. Two years ago, he was appointed Head of
the New Multimedia Centre for the BBC, developing interactive projects
on all platforms, co-ordinating and managing the BBC's public service
Internet pages, and training people throughout the BBC in the skills
needed to develop the new media including CD-ROM's and interactive
television.
Four months ago, he was appointed Director of Science World.
