Jeffrey Sowder

Digital Resources Librarian, Columbia University

Jeffrey Sowder is Digital Resources Librarian at Columbia University in New York City where he is active in digital library initiatives involving metadata creation for networked access to electronic text, journals, databases, reference services, and digital image collections. Mr. Sowder has been active in the ARLIS/NY Cataloging Subcommittee since 1995, working with librarians from major art museums and libraries in the NYC metropolitan area. Mr. Sowder participated in the implementation of the MESL (Museum & Educational Site License) Project at Columbia, and presented a paper on the subject of structuring metadata for art and architecture images at the 6th Annual VTLS Director's Conference in Blacksburg VA in October, 1996. Mr. Sowder is also V.P.-Pres. Elect of NYTSL, an New York City metropolitan area organization which sponsors lectures and biannual dinners at the Princeton Club with speakers from the computing and library industries.

Jeffrey will present Cataloging Images for Digital Collections.
