Marcello Carrozzino got his Laurea degree in 2000 at the Faculty of Computer Engineering of Università di Pisa, with a thesis on "Image Caching algorithms for the visualization if Virtual Environments". In 2001 he spent a brief period at the University College of London collaborating to the project Virtual Crowds. Since 2001 he's been working at PERCRO Lab of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in the Visualization Group (since 2003 as a PhD student), dealing with the development of VR systems and, in particular, on the project XVR, an IDE for web-enabled VR applications. Currently he is the head of the PERCRO Virtual Heritage group. In 2006 he attained his PhD with a thesis on "Efficient modeling and rendering of Complex Virtual Environments". In September 2006 he has been appointed lecturer for the course of "Realtà Virtuale" (Virtual Reality), formerly held by professor Massimo Bergamasco, at the faculty of Computer Science of Università di Pisa, for which he has been holding lectures since 2001. So far he has been supervising about fifteen degree thesis, and authored and co-authored about twenty-five publications in conference proceedings and international workshops. Since November 2006 he's a Research Fellow at IMT Lucca in the area of Technology and Management of Cultural Heritage, in particular dealing with “Computer Graphics for Virtual Environments”. He is also co-founder of VRMedia, a spin-off company of SSSA, dealing with hardware and software solution for Virtual Reality systems.
