He was co-founder of the Visible Language Workshop (with Muriel Cooper) and Principal Research Associate and head of the Intelligent Graphics group at MIT's Media Lab. He has conducted research in computer-based painting/printing, intelligent personalized design tools, constraint-based and case based graphical programming tools since 1977. His recent work focuses on interactive projection display systems that put users IN the data, seamless ultra high-resolution displays, knowledge based transportation systems and tools for online design communitites.
