Workshops

Next Generation Distributed Collaborative Spaces

Larry Friedlander, Stanford Learning Lab, USA

Session: Designing Interactive Space

Filled

As use of the Internet becomes more sophisticated, museums will need to rethink how to design and situate the spaces that facilitate these uses. The workshop will examine the expanding set of possible uses for distributed experience, (exhibits, performances, collaborative planning, education) and describe the technologies and accompanying social and organizational protocols needed to implement these next generation spaces. We will discuss where these sites might be located within the museum, how they would be structured, and how they could be integrated into current museum practice.

Participants will work in groups to devise possible designs for both the virtual and physical sites.
