Dean Johnson is President and CEO of the Museum Company.com, an Internet e-commerce retailer of museum-related merchandise headquartered in Charlottesville, VA. The Museum Company.com, founded in November 1999, is the Internet sister company the The Museum Company. Prior thereto, Mr. Johnson was CFO of Value America, an Internet general merchandise retailer also headquartered in Charlottesville. In November 1997, Mr. Johnson joined Value America when it had 20 employees and $1 million in equity funding. Over the next 24 months, Mr. Johnson was responsible for raising over $131 million in private equity capital (the most ever raised by an Internet company prior to its IPO) and managing Value America’s successful initial public offering that raised $145 million. He also supervised Value America’s accounting, human resource, legal, and mergers and acquisitions departments.

Active in business advising and capital formation, Mr. Johnson sits on the Advisory Boards of 3ware, a maker of high capacity data storage systems, Inova Corporation, a leading manufacturer of time sensitive messaging systems, and Virginia Capital, an investment management firm.

Mr. Johnson also worked for General Motors for nine years and Lehman Brothers for five years. He is an entrepreneur in his own right as in 1991 he co-founded a high speed, broadband access company in Charlottesville and successfully sold that company to a local telephone company in 1994. He went on to manage three additional investments successfully in that industry. Mr. Johnson holds a B.S. in Industrial Administration from General Motors Institute and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia.
