Joan H. Gorman received a Masters in Museum Practice from the University of Michigan (1976) and was curator at the Brandywine River Museum, Chadds Ford, PA until 1982. In 1985, she graduated from the State University College at Buffalo (Cooperstown, NY) specializing in paintings conservation. After interning at the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, MD and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, she was a paintings conservation fellow at the Intermuseum Conservation Association (ICA), Oberlin, OH. She remained with ICA as a staff conservator until 1989. Currently, she is Senior Paintings Conservator at the Upper Midwest Conservation Association, Minneapolis, MN, a position she has held for 11 years. Joan has served as Treasurer of the Midwest Region Conservation Guild and, more recently, as Chair of the Paintings and Conservation Specialty Group of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC).
