An Integrated Tool for Generating Metadata Records for Museum Objects
Marcia Lei Zeng , Kent State University, USA
http://www.slis.kent.edu

Session: Demo Sessions 1

In 1999, the author tested the application of existing metadata formats to the Kent State University Museum's collection of fashionable and traditional costumes from the eighteenth through nineteenth century (see http://www.oclc.org/oclc/research/ publications/ review99/frameset.htm). A by-product of this research is a tool which implements the defined data description. The core component of this tool is a template for generating metadata records (http://circe.slis.kent.edu/ mzeng/vratemplate.htm). Each of the elements listed in the template is linked to the metadata specification as well as a set of vocabularies suggested for use. Using the online template, metadata records for museum objects are generated. This demonstration will show an integrated tool for ensuing the quality as well as the productivity of metadata record creation.
