Karen Worcman was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1962. She graduated in History and has a master in Linguistics. She has been working with oral history since 1986. She is director of the Museum of the Person and one of its founders. She has coordinated innumerous projects on life stories. The projects -developed for companies and institutions became different kinds of products like CD Rooms, Intranets, books, exhibitions and documentaries. The Museum of the Person is a virtual museum founded in São Paulo, Brazil in 1992. Since 1996 a site on the net is open for every person to send his/her life story as to read other people's story. Since it was founded, Karen has coordinated more then 20 projects like the multimedia history of the two major soccer teams in Brazil, the multimedia history of tradesmen in Brazil, the story of electricity, some Memory Centers for some of the majors companies in Brazil. She is also a fellow Ashoka. Ashoka is a global, nonprofit organization that finds and supports outstanding individuals for far-reaching social change. Her major interests are oral history and technology and how this can be applied in communication and social improvement Her goal is to create an international network based on life stories that should work through out the net and that will be an alternative channel of communication and education between different kinds of communities.
