A native of Barcelona, Spain, Emma Fernandez has worked in the museum field for the past eight years in a variety of capacities, including gallery education, school, teacher and teen programs, and interpretive initiatives using both printed materials and new media technologies. Emma joined the ICA three years ago with the challenge of “giving birth” to the Mediatheque, a unique architectural environment for visitors to access contemporary art, as well as a platform for new media art and user-generated content. As the Education & Interpretation Specialist at the ICA, Emma gets to do what she’s passionate about: create connections between people and the art of our times, generate dialogue about what contemporary art means, and provide a deeper understanding of the world through artistic creations. She holds a degree in art history with a focus on turn of twentieth century and contemporary art (1999) and a masters of arts in museum education (2004); Before joining The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Emma worked in La Fundació Caixa de Catalunya located in one of Gaudí’s buildings in the heart of Barcelona, La Fundació “la Caixa” - Caixaforum in Barcelona, and the Baltimore Museum of Art in Baltimore.

Emma will demonstrate The Poss Family Mediatheque @ The ICA Boston. [Demonstration]
