Jean-François Lapointe is a research officer at the Institute for Information Technology of the National Research Council of Canada (IIT-NRC). He received a B.Ing. and a M.Ing. in mechanical engineering as well as a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, all from École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1992, 1994 and 1999 respectively. He joined the IIT-NRC in 1998 and since then, he is doing research in Human-Computer Interaction, with the design, development and evaluation of advanced interactive technologies for 3D interaction on personal computers and large displays. He worked on several projects to demonstrate the benefits of virtual environments technologies in fields such as forestry, mining, space robotics and, currently, in Cultural Heritage.
