Norman Barth

Norman Barth is a researcher in the natural sciences. He has lived and studied extensively in Western Europe, North America, and Africa. He began Les Pages de Paris / The Paris Pages web site shortly after coming to US from France in 1994 as a personal initiative to put cultural content online in a non-commercial way. During the past three years, he has developed the paradigm of web-site-as-almost-database and confronted the problem of how to associate diverse data types found in a web sites in useful ways. He has worked with the internet for over 10 years; computes daily on platforms ranging from Cray/SGIs to PCs/Macintoshs and uses languages from FORTRAN, C, & Perl to English, French, and German. His Ph.D. in physics, he has written and presented papers in several scientific fields. Currently he lives in La Jolla, California, and works at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
