I have been working in the overlapping realm of museums and the web for the last three years, almost since the inception of the Web. As administrator of the University of California Museum of Paleontology, I have been involved with producing one of the first and now largest museum web sites in the world. This long intimacy with the Web and with museums has given me a unique view on the possibilities for the uses of the Web. I will address in my talk the possibilities for using the Web as a tool for research in the sciences.
