Michael Katchen

Archivist, Franklin Furnace

Michael Katchen is the Archivist for Franklin Furnace Archive, Inc., and has been professionally affiliated with the institution since 1980. As an artist/photographer working towards a MFA degree, Mr. Katchen began an Internship at Franklin Furnace that resulted in his being hired as Registrar. Later, as Director of Collections, he was employed by MoMA to facilitate the transfer of the Franklin Furnace Artist Book Collection to their library. Besides running the archive and working on personal projects, Mr. Katchen is an adjunct faculty member at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He also owns and operates a small photography studio in Manhattan, and occasionally lectures on the subject of photography.

Michael will co-present The Whys and Hows of Deinstitutionalization.
