Steven Smith
Steven Smith was a teacher of History, English and Computing in South
Australia before he and Prue Astley established their consulting firm,
United Focus. United Focus is an independent company that provides consultancy
and project management services in the Internet and CD ROMs. Their first
major consultancy was to project manage and edit a CD ROM to commemorate
the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. They worked very closely
with and historian, the Australian War Memorial and State Library of
South Australia in selecting and digitising photographs, film footage
and oral history tapes. Steven was the principal consultant and writer
of a report for the Federal Government, Digitisation of Collections,
which deals with the policy issues that arise when museums, art galleries,
libraries and archives digitise their collections. He is currently working
on related Internet based projects: a database tracking digitisation
projects in Australia; professional development resources for staff
of collecting institutions; and copyright and the Internet.
Steven has advised and managed a number of Internet and information
kiosk projects including those for the Australian
Wine Industry , South Australian Tourism Commission, State
Library of South Australia, Commonwealth
Department for Communications and the Arts and the Australian Institute
of Political Science.
