Session: Demonstrations 1

A web site developed by the Arctic Studies Center (National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution) spans the circumpolar regions with features on indigenous cultures and art, Smithsonian collections, new exhibitions, northern wildlife, and discoveries by arctic researchers. Students and educators from primary through graduate school access the site for information, rich imagery, and perspectives on the far north, including views from Native commentators. The site reflects a new collaborative paradigm for northern social science, supporting communication between museums and communities where research and collecting have been undertaken. nmnh.si.edu/arctic/ has received awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Encyclopedia Britannica On-Line, Yahoo, AOL, and the Academy of Web Design.
