Professor of Museum Studies at the University of Toronto where she has been teaching since 1980. One of Dr. Teather's research interests lies in the history of museum and she is currently writing a book on the history of Canadian museums. She also researches and writes on history, theory and methodology of museology, museums and cultural pluralism, new media and issues of professional development and curriculum development for Museum Studies. She has worked at the Canadian Museums Association, the Canadian Heritage Information Network and Niagara-on-the-Lake Historical Society Museum, and as a consultant. She is an active volunteer in several museums associations, where she sits on committees, is a frequent conference presenter, and has been a member of the CMA Human Resource Planning Committee. With Judie Harvie, she has authored Museum Job Shifts: A Fieldbook for Museum Career Planning and the Development of a Community of Learners for Museums. She is Principal Investigator for the AMICO Testbed of the University of Toronto focussing on the museological perspectives of museums and new media especially the user context of museum meaning-making.
