Jeanne McConnell joined the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) in January 1998 as the first Program Officer for the new National Leadership Grant (NLG) Program. The program was formed by the Library Services and Technology Act of 1996 and includes four categories: Research & Demonstration, Preservation or Digitization, and the two Jeanne administers, Education & Training and Model Programs of Cooperation between Libraries and Museums. She is an active member of American Library Association (ALA), Special Libraries Association (SLA) and its Museum Arts & Humanities Division and Information Technology Division. Prior to joining IMLS, Jeanne was with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Library from 1988 - 1998, serving as Director from 1992. While with the NEA, Jeanne was actively involved in two policy advisory groups: the AIDS Working Group and the Web Working Group. Jeanne’s experiences also include ten years of public library service, public school education and university administration.
