Workshop: [A25] - Designing usable web sites: a requirements-driven approach

Participants will get from the tutorial:

- Understanding (at basic level) of AWARE, a modern, goal oriented methodology, for requirement elicitation

- Understanding (at basic level) of W2000, a modern method for designing effective and usable web applications, possibly delivered on different ?channels?, i.e., devices

- An experience of applying the above to existing museum web sites

Outline of the Tutorial

TIME (h.min)

0.0-0.30 Introduction: The motivations are given and the workshop is organized

0.30-1.15 Goals: The notion of Goals, and its refinements, as explained in AWARE, is introduced

1.15-2.00 Goals - hands on: Participants apply the technique to proposed websites (goal reverse elicitation)

2.00-2.20 From Goals to Requirements: The process of refining goals into requirements is explained

2.30-3.15 Requirements - hands on: Participants apply the technique to proposed websites (reverse requirements elicitation)

3.15-3.45 Designing information Architecture: The design of information architecture, as defined in W2000

3.45-4.15 Organizing Navigation: The organization of navigation as defined in W2000

4.15-5.00 Information Architecture + Navigation hands on: Participants apply the technique to proposed websites (reverse design)

5.00-5.30 Page design: Publishing techniques as defined in W2000

5.30-6.00 Page design - hands on: Participants apply the technique to proposed websites (reverse page design)

6.00-6.30 Designing Multichannel applications: Customization: Design How to customize web applications for different channels (i.e., devices)

6.30-7.00 Customization - hands on: Participants apply the technique to proposed websites (reverse customization)

7.00-7.30 Technical Closure: Technical overview of what has being done

7.30-8.00 Wrap-up: Questions & Answers and Comments
