Paolo Paolini, Department of Electronics and

is Full Professor of Computer Graphics and Multimedia at Politecnico
di Milano - Italy. He is also director of HOC-Hypermedia Open
Center - at Politecnico. He has a Master and PhD in Computer Science
from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He has
been active in the following research fields: data base modelling
and systems, programming languages, distributed data bases, data
bases views, hypertext and multimedia models, multimedia authoring
systems, multimedia application development tools. He is associate
editor of TOIS-ACM. He has authored more than 70 scientific papers,
and organized major scientific events (including ICHIM 2001, with
nearly 400 participants from 32 countries of 5 continents). He
has coordinated, DISCETECH-BIMBOTECH, a 6 years project for using
ICT to foster education in Italian schools. Nearly 1,000 teachers
and 20,000 pupils (from 3 years to 18 years of age) have been
involved in different experiments conducted in 10 different cities.
He has been the coordinator of the development of the shared Science
and Technology Museum of Milan, the first interactive museum using
shared 3D, that has received (by Museum and the Web) the award
as best on-line application for museums in 1999. He is the chief
designer of the SEE project, being in charge of technical and
interaction requirements.
