Session: 2.3 Mobile Computing Technologies and Applications
The emergence of wireless communications and portable computing devices is shaping scenarios where distributed computing becomes truly ubiquitous, by allowing users to retain network connectivity even while on the move. The tutorial will provide an introduction to mobile computing, by distilling the information needed to understand the opportunities, technical challenges, and state of the art characterizing this rapidly growing field. The enabling communication and hardware technology will be surveyed first, followed by a discussion of the several nuances of mobile computing and of their specific requirements and opportunities. A look at the state of the art in software development of mobile applications will constitute the final portion of the tutorial.
