Michael Hiley has been the driving force behind the Heritage on the Web project since its inception. He has a background in the humanities, specifically in the history of the modern media, and also holds postgraduate qualification in information technology. Having produced a number of large scale illustrated books with academic texts he moved into electronic publishing when this became possible. Apart from Heritage on the Web he has also headed a major section of the HELIX project which provided fifty thousand images to U.K. universities from the archives of Getty Images, and elsewhere.
