Session: 3D Archaeology

In May 1998, the exhibition, "Mysteries of Egypt" opened at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in conjunction with the world premiere of the IMAX movie "Mysteries of Egypt". As a new feature, the museum constructed a Virtual Reality 3D Theatre for the presentation of VR Tours of the Tombs of Nefertari and Tutankhamum. This paper presents an overview of the VR Theatre experience including a summary of the challenges experienced in integrating several hardware and software systems. The latter will be useful to museums and cultural institutions planning similar installations in the future.
