Before joining the Division in January 1999, Dr Ramaiah was Deputy Director at DESIDOC, a national information centre in Defence Science & Technology in India. He has worked for 14 years in the Defence Research & Development Organisation, India, as Scientist, and worked in various areas including conducting research, heading A-V division, Defence Science Library. He was a Commonwealth Scholar for PhD in Information Science in 1989. Soon after obtaining his PhD, he set up a multimedia lab and worked several years in designing multimedia applications, presentation and training materials. His formal education includes Masters degrees in Chemistry and in Library and Information Science. He is a member of many international professional bodies/ societies such as the Institute of Information Scientists, LA, ASIST, and ACM. Dr Ramaiah's research interests include multimedia & hypertext technologies, human-computer interaction, user interfaces, designing electronic books, CAI and bibliometrics.
