As the Media Arts Specialist for the Guggenheim Museum, Paul Kuranko creates the audio-visual technical designs for the museum's exhibitions both in New York and abroad. These exhibitions include Mediascape; Rooms With A View: Environments for Video; Hugo Boss Prize 1996 & 1998; Bill Viola: Fire, Water, Breath; The Worlds of Nam June Paik; Premises: Invested Spaces in Visual Arts, Architecture, and Design from France, 1958-1998; and Frank Gehry, Architect; among others. In this capacity, he has also worked with such artists as Vito Acconci, Laurie Anderson, Matthew Barney, Douglas Gordon, William Kentridge, Bruce Nauman, Pipilotti Rist, and Steina Vasulka to devise technical solutions for their video-based installations. Kuranko is also a participant in the museum's Variable Media Initiative, a long-term undertaking to develop new procedures and standards for collecting media-based artworks for the Guggenheim and the museum and collecting community at large. Before joining the museum in 1996, Kuranko worked with Gary Hill for a number of years, managing the design and installation of the artist's video artworks.

In addition, Kuranko has consulted extensively, advising such private collectors as the Peter Norton Collection, Eilieen and Michael Cohen Collection, and the Kramlich Collection on the management and installation of media-based artworks. He has also served as an advisor to Herzog and de Meuron architects on plans to incorporate art installations into the living areas and gallery spaces of the Kramlich residence and Media Collection in Napa Valley.
