Patricia Gillard has a long professional and academic career in audience research, people's uses of telecommunications and visitor research for cultural institutions. She established User Insite in 1997 to apply ethnographic approaches to online audience research, making audience engagement with content more visible and inspiring to the creative work of producers. In Febrary to April, 2001 she was a Fulbright Fellow at the NMAH, Smithsonian Institution in the Web Program.
