Steven Smith was a teacher of History, English and Computing in South Australia before he established a consulting firm, United Focus in 1995 (www.unitedfocus.com.au). United Focus is an independent company that provides Internet and CD ROM consultancy and project management services. Their first major consultancy was to project manage and edit the CD ROM Their Sacrifice 1945-1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. Steven was the principal consultant and writer of a report for the Australian Federal Government, Digitisation of Collections, which dealt with the policy issues that arise when museums, art galleries, libraries and archives digitise their collections. He was the Executive Producer of the Digitisation Forum Online web site which was a professional development resources for staff of collecting institutions. Steven has advised and managed over twenty web site projects including those for the State Library of South Australia, South Australian Museum's Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery, Australian Wine Industry, South Australian Tourism Commission, Commonwealth Department for Communications and the Arts and the Australian Institute of Political Science. He was a workshop presenter and speaker at Museums and the Web '98 and has spoken at library and art gallery national conferences in Australia since then.
