Art History Webmasters, As a listserv and Organization

Robert Derome , University of Quebec - Montreal, Canada

Session: Academic Users of Museum Web Sites

Our listserv groups some 80 webmasters "who maintain a web site related to art history, whether in a university, a government, a museum, a library, a discussion list, any other institution or a personal page", in 13 countries, 4 Art History Associations, 1 international private company, several Universities and Museums. Imagine what could happen if art history webmasters collaborate to exchange informations. Each one would not have to rebuild the whole world each time. This is the aim of this restricted discussion list and group. Art historians all over the world could benefit of better access to the best information available, whatever the language is : français, english, deutsch, italiano, castellano, catalán... Here are some of the issues discussed amongst members of this group: shared facilities; professional recognition of web work; art history departments web sites; links to websites; images and copyright problems; courses websites; data banks; research; collaboration; associations; discussion lists; private companies.
